Okay, okay, I’ve been hearing this rumor over the last few months that us Celiacs CAN in fact eat certain oats. Is this for real? Or just a really bad, bad joke? Anyone, anyone, please let me know!

It’s real =) Bob’s Red Mill will have some nation wide shortly. In the meantime, however, throw your business to the pioneers of this goodness at: GiftsofNature.net Happy eating! |

You can buy gf oats from Bob’s Red Mill, Gifts of Nature, Glutenfree.com, & Gluten Free Oats. I think the Gluten Free Mall (like Bob’s) carries the rolled oats. For a discussion on Should You Eat Oats?, here is the link to a post I put on my blog about them: http://glutenagogogalley.blogspot.com/2007/09/should-you-eat-oats-for-discussion-on.html I hope that helps you out. Oh my god, thank you, ladies, I really appreciate your info! I can hardly believe it’s true! Oh man, I can’t wait to add a new ingredient to my diet, not to mention all the possibilities for cookies, breads, muffins, etc. I’m literally buzzing with excitement. Thanks again and I look forward to hearing from you guys soon. |

From what I’ve read…and I think the info is on celiac.com…there are two things to consider: cross contamination…and the part of oats (similar to gluten)that a few celiacs , but not all, seem to have an issue with. So it’s a personal choice, but one should proceed with caution. Another part of the celiac world that isn’t super clear yet. |

Studies have proven that proteins in oats can mimic gluten for (at least) some individuals. There is no definitive answer about how many people this affects or your odds. This is briefly described at the end of this page (my docs’ website, who are very educated about Gluten and on one side of the camp): BTW – I just came across your website and I absolutely love it. I am really excited to try about 20 of your creations. Thank you very much for your work and passion. |
