LIVING

The Where and The Why

I know I have a habit of being and not being consistent when it comes to my blog posts, but this time it has far more to do with merely baking. After months of preparation, which included moving into my “Test Kitchen Space,” I can finally announce that I have begun to sell some of my baked goods here in Austin!

I moved my operations out of the house because it was just far too distracting to constantly be baking and more importantly, I was taking over Tim’s play ground—a MAJOR no-no when it comes to living with a chef. I mean, it was getting to a point where I was testing two and three recipes every other day which is not only time consuming, it was beginning to destroy our diets.

Leo was clearly beginning to favor sugar over all other food options and Tim was no longer cooking, at all. I had to move forward in a healthy way for all involved; when you’re married with a child, every decision you make ultimately effects all parties, not just the person experiencing the change. And so, after a few heated arguments, Tim and I decided that I had to find a new space to work, especially if I was going to start producing commercially.

In the midst of all this change, Blackbird Bakery was born and as of yesterday, I began supplying a few of my goods to Emerald City Press www.emeraldcitypress.com, located at 915 North Lamar here in Austin.

In addition to supplying to Emerald City Press, I will also be taking local special orders for special occasions and parties, so if you have a little something you’re craving, contact me via e-mail.

I’m exhausted but very, very excited and can’t wait to see how things pan out in the future…whatever it may hold.
